About
Charmaine is an Animal Communicator, McTimoney-Corley Animal Therapist (aka Chiropractor) for animals, an NLP and Hypnotherapy practitioner, and an Equine Facilitated Learning Practitioner living and working in rural West Wales, UK.
She has over 20 years experience of working professionally with horses and a depth of knowledge developed through working with many different people and horses throughout this time.
Charmaine has always had a deep love of animals and especially horses. This came to light at a young age when she would find a way to be with or near horses and ponies whenever possible. Coming from a ‘non horsey’ family Charmaine went on to learn to ride in riding stables as soon as she was old enough to do so and progressed to borrowing various horses and ponies to take along to Pony Club rallies and team competitions. Although her family didn't have horses' in their blood they did have a sense of living in a holistic way. The ideas of avoiding chemicals and eating organically along with having a neighbour that was an energy healer gave Charmaine an interest in using herbs and natural remedies and learning about energy healing, crystals and aromatherapy from a young age.
Her professional career with horses grew organically from local freelance grooming and training horses into managing an elite level international eventing and dressage stud yard alongside training and competing her own horses. Charmaine fulfilled her competitive dressage dreams by competing Nationally in the Pony Club and Riding Club teams and represented GB in the BYRDS Under 21’s International team in 2000. Her passion for dressage was deep and she would spend any spare moment watching and observing training sessions, along with spending any spare money on having training sessions herself.
In 2003 Charmaine graduated with a BSc (hons) Animal Science from Aberystwyth University and then returned back to working and managing the dressage and eventing stud in the Chew Valley.
Some years later she trained and practiced as a Master Practitioner of NLP and Hypnotherapy with Paul McKenna and Richard Bandler. Shortly after this she discovered Equine Facilitated Learning and went on to train and graduate as a Practitioner of Equine Facilitated Learning in the HEAL Method, trained by Leigh Shambo and Kathleen Barry Ingram in America.
It was at an Equine Facilitated Learning workshop with Leigh Shambo that Charmaine experienced animal communication for the first time. After this experience she continued to practice the animal communication skills with friends horses and at the same time started to realise that she no longer wanted to be part of the competitive dressage scene, but wasn’t sure where to turn next. Her journey of learning animal communication continued by practicing in person communications, and then began working from photographs when it wasn't practical to be able to get to the horse in person.
Whilst still exploring animal communication skills Charmaine worked as yard manager at Ham House Stables, Richmond. Here she learnt about classical dressage, working horses in hand and the Alexander technique for horse riders. Alongside the role of yard manager she trained and qualified as a McTimoney-Corley Animal Practitioner and went on to treat horses and dogs as a practitioner.
Charmaine now combines her unique combination of skills and knowledge to help people and animals in whatever way is right and most helpful to them. She offers animal communication sessions remotely and in person, and travels to treat horses and dogs in person. People can either come to her, or she is happy to travel to see them for NLP and Hypnotherapy sessions at their home or yard or online. She is able to offer Equine Facilitated Learning sessions and can also craft bespoke sessions that draw on all of her different skills and experience.
At some point most days Charmaine can be found outside in the hills, mountains or somewhere by the sea. Along with horses and animals she has a love of the sea and is often known to be gathering friends together for an invigorating sea dip or to enjoy a beach bbq together in the warmer weather.
